چکیده

Throughout the history of citrus production in Florida one of the diseases with a major impact has been the Asian form of citrus greening (HLB), which was first detected in 2005. As a response to this introduction, new survey and detection methods had to be developed utilizing field observations directed not only to corroborate symptoms already reported in the literature, but to describe any variations in symptomology observed on the different citrus varieties and their relatives growing in the area. Field and lab symptom studies were performed on Citrus aunantiifolia (Key/Mexican lime), C. aurantiifolia ( Persian lime), C. aurantium ( sour orange), C. jambhiri (rough lemon), C. limettioides ( Palestine sweet lime), C. limon (lemon), C. limonia (Rangpur lime), C. maxima (pummelo), C. macrophylla (alemow) , C. x paradisi (grapefruit), C. reticulata (mandarin-tangerine), C. reticulata X C. x paradisi (tangelo), C. sinensis (sweet orange), and Poncirus trifoliata (trifoliate orange) plants. The blotchy mottle symptom observed on the study plants support those described in the literature as the most important diagnostic symptom. Based on the results, training activities and materials were developed to compliment survey activities and sample collection protocols used to delimit and monitor the disease spread. Feasibility of Using the Optical Sensing Techniques for Early Detection of Huanglongbing in Citrus Seedlings

A vision sensor was introduced and tested for early detection of citrus Huanglongbing (HLB). This disease is caused by the bacterium Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas) and is transmitted by the Asian citrus psyllid. HLB is a devastating disease that has exerted a significant impact on citrus yield and quality in Florida. Unfortunately, no cure has been reported for HLB. Starch accumulates...

Biocontrol program targets Asian citrus psyllid in California’s urban areas

wayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae), has emerged as the most important exotic insect pest of citrus in California. Damage is two-fold. First, psyllids cause direct injury to citrus through feeding on phloem juice in immature foliage, deforming the leaves (Halbert and Manjunath 2004); and second, and more importantly, they vector the bacterium Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), which causes the ...

Examination of the responses of different genotypes of citrus to huanglongbing (citrus greening) under different conditions.

ABSTRACT Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB) is one of the most devastating diseases of citrus worldwide. The causal agent of HLB in Florida is thought to be 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus'. In this work, we examined the responses of 30 different genotypes of citrus to Florida isolates of 'Ca. L. asiaticus' under controlled conditions in the greenhouse or growth room. Although 'Ca. L. asiaticus' was...

Detection of Huanglongbing (citrus greening) disease by nucleic acid spot hybridization.

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification with primers specific to the rDNA region successfully amplified the 1160-bp DNA fragment from a Huanglongbing (HLB)-infected sweet orange sample with mottling symptoms leaves, but not from healthy sweet orange plants. The PCR product of 1160-bp was used as probe labeled with biotin for detection of the HLB pathogen in the nucleic acid spot hybridiza...

A review of techniques for detecting Huanglongbing (greening) in citrus.

Huanglongbing (HLB) is the most destructive disease of citrus worldwide. Monitoring of health and detection of diseases in trees is critical for sustainable agriculture. HLB symptoms are virtually the same wherever the disease occurs. The disease is caused by Candidatus Liberibacter spp., vectored by the psyllids Diaphorina citri Kuwayama and Trioza erytreae. Electron microscopy was the first t...
